Into the Vortex

Took this shot during a blizzard in Chicago last Superbowl Sunday. We were walking to a friend's house and I took along my camera. My wife was going to pose, but then turned around to avoid the wind and I thought it made a much better shot with her looking through the portal at this neighborhood park.

Shelter from the Storm

I was walking back after shooting the Chinese New Year parade when I saw this Lady and a kid just walking slowly down the alleyway hand in hand. Unfortunately I had put away my camera and it took me some time to get it out. Caught the scene just before they disappeared through a doorway. It actually ended up being my personal favorite shot of the day.

Thorny Tendrils

I was playing around with this image and I really wanted bring out the starkness of the desert. The infrared filter in Nik Color Efex did the trick.

Light Flow

The harsh midday sun can work well in a canyon highlighting the sculpted rock with its twists and turns.

Through the Arch

It's amazing how erosion shapes the rocks over the years. This archway was the entrance of the Palm Wash Slot Canyon in Anza-Borrego.

Desert Dancers

Joshua trees are such an intriguing species of plants. Growing in all sorts of sizes and shapes they last hundreds of years. Some look so top heavy, it's a wonder they don't fall over.

I've always loved lone trees. It's even more special when it's a Joshua Tree.

Even though we had a gorgeous moonlit night, the sunrise and sunset were a bit boring with no clouds in the sky. The shadows cast by the pinnacles made for a great photo though

I felt really bad for the people stuck in the train. However perfect opportunity to get the shot.

This little nook in the loop felt so claustrophobic when you look up.

The crowds thin on Santa Monica beach as the sun goes down, leaving behind tire tracks and full trash cans.

Step into the Circle

An accidental photo. I was trying to take a photo of the cobblestones in Pershing Square when this gentleman decided to step in which really made the photo.

The late afternoon light hits the top of the building so perfectly lighting it up.

The skydeck is obviously very safe, but it's still unnerving to stand on glass and look down.
