Crystalline
I can't get enough of this building. I love how black and white brings out flowing lines in the glass.
Hexed
The icredible glass sculpture that is the Harpa Concert Hall is a treasure trove of repeating patterns.
Reykjavik At the Dock
Those blues and oranges. I can't get enough of it. I kept taking the saturation down, but had to leave some pop in there.
Harpa at Blue Hour
The ever changing lighting of this magnificent building makes it difficult to pick a favorite image. I thought this one was perfect with a composition of nothing but the primary colors.
The Great Beyond
Kolugljúfur Canyon Cascade
This beautiful waterfall was a bit off the ring road on the north side and was totally not crowded at all. We had to drive through some farmland to get there
The Majestic Godafoss
It's a bit scary how close to the edge you can get to here. Love this vantage point that gives you a full view of the horseshoe.
Craterland
Myvatn Panorama
Which Way?
The beautifully winding Icelandic Ring Road also provides great opportunities for photography especially with the often stark surrounding landscape.
Road to Borgarfjörður Eystri
Waiting for Sundown
At the eastern most tip of the eastfjord of Seyðisfjörður lies Skalanes nature reserve. You have to drive across 3 mountain streams to the stunning remote location with a mountain lodge. Literally feels like the edge of the world.
A Skalanes Sundown
Finally the sun has gone down the horizon after much hesitation. It lingers just below waiting to come back up again. We must have gotten only about 3 hours of real darkness before the morning glow. \
Wild Land
This log looked so out of place in that wilderness with no trees. Wonder how it got there. I tried my hand with some focus stacking to get everything in focus. I think it worked out pretty well.
Jokulsarlon - Ice Castles
Jokulsarlon was truly my favorite place in Iceland hands down. These natural floating ice castles are incredibly beautiful and so ephemeral. I wish I had much more time to explore there...
Monolith
Jokulsarlon - Land of Fire and Ice
Luckily enough for us, the only dramatic sunset we saw in Iceland was at Jokulsarlon. The light falling on the ice was such a breathtaking sight. That was also the last time we saw the sun on our trip.
Jokulsarlon - Ice Sculptures at Sunset
We were so lucky to get a beautiful sunset at Jokulsarlon. As the sun disappeared over the horizon the ice took on richer hues of blue framed by the beautiful smattering of clouds.
Jokulsarlon - Shaved Ice
Luscious chunks of creamy blue just makes you want to scoop it up and feel it melt in your mouth....
Jokulsarlon - Icy Blues
The glacial ice from Jokulsarlon icebergs break apart and crash back onto the aptly named diamond beach. It was a rainy day that punctuated the blues. Must be even more amazing on a sunny day.
Seljalandsfoss
One thing that really surprised me about Iceland is how green it is. Especially with the rain the waterfall really pops among the glistening greenery.
Seljalandsfoss - Under the Waterfall
One drop is lonely, two drops okay Three drops can make a spray Four drops get carried away, dive Under the waterfall, under the waterfall Under the waterfall, it's cool and cold, and clear - James
Black Beach
The white breakers look so stark against the black sand of the beach. Almost post-apocalyptic!
Wrecked
The long hike down to the black beach of Sólheimasandur is totally worth it to see this surreal scene. Over 40 years of rough weather is definitely wearing it down, but I'm amazed that so much of the wreckage is still there.
